Xstrata Copper Kidd Creek Mine and Metallurgical sites

In October 2005, eight participants from three government departments participated in a tour of the Xstrata Copper Kidd Creek Mine and Metallurgical sites.  The famous Kidd Creek ore body was discovered in 1963 and produces copper and zinc, as well as indium, cadmium, silver and sulphuric acid.  Employing more than 1,400 people, Kidd Creek is divided into two independent business units, Kidd Mining Division and Kidd Metallurgical Division. Kidd Mining Division is focused on developing and sustaining economic mining plans, while Kidd Metallurgical Division concentrates on further establishing itself as a custom-feed processing facility.
